In addition to providing wicked
alternative athletic entertainment to New Orleans, the Big Easy
Rollergirls volunteer and support charitable organizations that
benefit our community at large.
Below are some of our non-bouting
activities from the 2006-2007 season. We had a blast, and we
love these groups!!!!
Dirty Dogs for Derby! On
May 26 the Big Easy Rollergirls washed dogs as a league
fundraiser. We also collected donated
pet care items for The Humane Society. Thanks
to everyone who brought out your pup for a scrub, and to everyone
who brought a donation! Please keep giving to this wonderful organization
all year long.
Slaughter Volunteer Fire
Department
For our final bout of the 2006-2007 season the
Big Easy Rollergirls decided to give back to the people
who have done so much for them...Our EMTS from the Slaughter
Volunteer Fire Department!! We collected items from their wishlist. Thanks to our wonderful fans for your generosity!
From the beginning of our inaugural season back in Sept. '06,
the Slaughter Volunteer Fire Dept. has generously given their
time and assistance at each of our bouts. Their knowledge and
expertise has been invaluable as they cared for all of our injured
skaters, and for that we are extremely thankful.
The
Big Easy Rollergirls have selected the Arabi Wrecking Krewe as
the local organization to support in April 2007. Please view their wish
list. Bring an item to the bout and get a free drink ticket!
The clearing, gutting, and
or repairing of homes for displaced musicians and their families
has been the main trust of the Arabi Wrecking Krewe since
Katrina struck New Orleans.
More information
on the Krewe is available at their website.
The
Big Easy Rollergirls selected New
Orleans City Park as the local organization to support
in March 2007.
City Park holds a special place in the hearts
of the rollergirls, many who are residents of the Mid-City area.
Rollergirls
Help Bring Sculptures Back to Life
As part of the Big Easy Rollergirls' ongoing
commitment to giving back to the community they volunteered
to help clean up the Sydney
and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden at City
Park.
On February 24 at 9 a.m. the Big Easy Rollergirls
helped
clean the 55 sculptures in the collection along with the grounds
surrounding them.
BERG Fans Make 2006 Holiday Toy & Ornament
Drive a Success!
Thanks to the generosity of our
fans, BERG collected sacks and sacks of new toys and ornaments
for local charities throughout the month of December 2006. We worked
with the Arabi Wrecking Krewe and Common Ground to insure that
these items would find their way to needy local families. Thanks
to Festivus, Santa’s Quarters in the French Quarter, and Vespa
New Orleans for serving as drop-off locations for our successful
drive.
NO AIDS Task Force Holiday Wishes
Also
during the 2006 holiday season.... the Big Easy Rollergirls signed
up with the NO AIDS Task Force Holiday Wishes Program to adopt
three families. The girls and their families generously donated
clothing, toys, and housewares in the hopes of making the holidays
a little better for these three families.

The
Big Easy Rollergirls selected KIDsmART,
an organization created to teach positive life skills to children
through the performing and visual arts, as their local charity
to support in November 2006. Please view their wish
list, cuz it's never too late to donate! By donating an
item to KIDsmART you can help keep art in
the public schools of New Orleans.
The
Big Easy Rollergirls selected the Louisiana SPCA as
their local charity to support during the first two bouts of
their inaugural season. They collected items from the LA SPCA’s wish
list to help show their support for all the homeless kitties
and puppies in New Orleans.
The Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty
to Animals is a private Non-Profit organization that provides
a compassionate shelter for all companion animals and exists
solely through the donations and support of people who love animals
as much as they do.
Formerly on Japonica St in the Upper 9th Ward, they are looking
forward to the opening of their new shelter on Mardi Gras Blvd
in January ’07. For more information go to www.la-spca.org
