GIVING BACK
Local charities interested in collaborating
with Big Easy Rollergirls, please contact Lacy Smith,
a.k.a. Lacy Underalls: lacy@bigeasyrollergirls.com

The Big Easy Rollergirls have selected New
Orleans City Park as the local organization to support
for our final two bouts of the 2007-2008 season.
City Park holds a special place in the hearts of the rollergirls, many who are
residents of the Mid-City area.
We'll be taking donations on behalf of City park at the home bouts at
Mardi Gras World on April 19 and May 24.
Bring an item from their wishlist and get a free drink

Dr. Ashley Morris, PhD, passed away on April 2nd, 2008. Ashley was
a father, a husband, a teacher, a scientist, a musician,
and above all, a New Orleanian. He was a fiery spirit
who inspired and energized anyone whose life he touched.
Ashley left behind a wife, a skater for the Big
Easy Rollergirls dubbed Soviet Block, and their three
small children. Expenses are mounting. Please
remember Ashley and help his family by making a donation
through the PayPal link below. More

March 16 - Bring a Donation for McDonogh
#32 School to the Bout
McDonogh #32 is located in the same neighborhood as our beloved
Mardi Gras World, and is chartered under the umbrella of the Recovery
School District and the Algiers Charter Schools Association. It
serves children in the Algiers neighborhood from pre-Kindergarten through
8th grade.
In
order to make sure that all students get the most
from their education, teachers often dip into their own pockets to
buy supplies so that their students can succeed. Can you
help with donations? The
McDonogh #32 Golden Eagles thank you, and the Big
Easy Rollergirls will give you a free drink ticket! View

The
Big Easy Rollergirls held a toy drive for Children's
Hospital of New Orleans during the 2007 holiday season.
Toys are needed year-round for children receiving
care and treatment at Children's Hospital. Their patients range
in age from birth through 21 years. View
the wish list, and please remember that
hospital policy requires that all toys and other donations
be brand new.
Slaughter Volunteer Fire
Department Car Show and Fundraiser
On November 10 from 10-4, the Big Easy Rollergirls
were at the Slaughter Volunteer Fire Department Car
Show and Fundraiser to support this
WONDERFUL organization, which gives so much to BERG!
(These firefighters also volunteer their time to
serve as EMTs at all our BERG bouts.
The
Big Easy Rollergirls selected the Louisiana SPCA as
their local charity to support at the November
18 bout. We asked our skaters, refs and audience members
to bring an item from the LA/SPCA’s wish
list to help show their support for all the homeless kitties
and puppies in New Orleans.
The LA/SPCA is a private Non-Profit organization
that provides a compassionate shelter for all companion
animals and exists solely through the donations and
support of people who love animals as much as they do. For more information
go to www.la-spca.org
LA/SPCA's Howloween
Madness
On October 28, the Big Easy Rollergirls
attended "A Halloween Celebration and Cat Adoption
Eve" at the new LA/SPCA facility at
1700
Mardi Gras Blvd. We painted faces, indulged in "kitty
litter cake,"
shared info on cat care, and helped spread the
message about the joys and wonder of adoption. So many animals
are available for adoption in New Orleans. We urge
you to open up your heart and your home!

BOYS HOPE GIRLS HOPE
For our first bout (Oct. 20) of the 2007-2008 season,
we collected
donations
for Boys Hope Girls Hope. Thanks SO much to our
wonderful fans and friends, who were so generous!!
Boys Hope Girls Hope helps academically
motivated and capable boys and girls from unstable
homes by providing a first rate education and a
warm and nurturing environment. International
in scope, the local "Our Boys Hope" home
is on the corner of Banks and S. Carrollton, across
the street from Jesuit, and they are currently
renting a house on Versailles for the girls.
(They are currently in the process of designing
and rebuilding the Girls Hope home which was badly
damaged during Hurricane Katrina.)
