January
16, 2007 Bout:
Big Easy Rollergirls vs.
Sin City Rollergirls
In
January 2007, the Big Easy Rollergirls made
roller derby history for New Orleans, when they
embarked on their first inter league play as
members of the Women's
Flat Track Derby League.
Vice on Vice
The Big Easy
Rollergirls traveled to Las Vegas to take on
the Sin
City Rollergirls on
January 13. The
teams battled it out on an outdoor track in freezing
temperatures to a small crowd of faithful derby
fans. There were even rollergirls from other
leagues in attendance, who drove in from as
far away as Reno and San Diego.
The Vegas girls had homecourt advantage at
Flamingo Banks, their practice field, and the
game was divided into three periods of 20 minutes.
But that doesn't account for the walloping taken
by the Big Easy Rollergirls, who were soundly
defeated -- the
score was 193-65 when
third period ended.
One thing they
couldn't beat out of the Big Easy Rollergirls,
however, was the spirit of New Orleans. The chorus
of "Who Dat!?" rang through the icy
air with
every hard-won point.
Despite the blood on the track, the Sin City
and Big Easy skaters soon joined forces...
to go out on the town and party all night long
together.
Don't miss the revenge of the Big Easy Rollergirls
when we host Sin City on our home turf of Mardi Gras
World!
